What Is / Paint Protection Film?
What Is / Paint Protection Film
Paint Protection Film (PPF) originates from a military application. It was developed in the late 1960's and early 1970s as a way to protect helicopter blades and other sensitive components, susceptible to damage from debris and other environmental factors. The technology was later adapted for use within the automotive industry. Whilst the fundamental principle of protection remains the same, the PPF of today not only protect, but also enhances the finish of the car.
PPF is made from a polyurethane material, which due to its mechanical properties is perfectly suited to this application. It is extremely durable, and its elasticity allows it to repel objects with ease. It is also able to withstand UV rays, preventing the underlying paint from fading due to sun exposure. PPF is applied primarily to high impact areas on the exterior of the vehicle, such as the bonnet, front bumper, wings and mirrors.
In recent years, the use of paint protection film has gained popularity among car enthusiasts and everyday drivers alike. It provides an invisible shield that preserves the aesthetic appearance of the vehicle whilst also maintaining its resale value. PPF can be particularly beneficial for those living in areas with harsh weather, road debris or during off road, track driving. Modern PPF comes in a range of finishes / thicknesses allowing for personalisation where required.
